STAFF AT NAMAQUA WINES CELLAR GETS ON BOARD FOR CASUAL DAY

The staff members at the Namaqua Wines cellar decided to dress up for Casual Day. The theme this year is Get on Board and people were encouraged to dress like a sailor, captain, mermaid or pirate.

Namaqua Wines Athletics Club Shines in Marathons all over SA

The Namaqua Wines athletics club has been earning their stripes in marathons all over South Africa - from the Comrades Marathon to the Oorlogskloof Trail Event in Vanrhynspas. We’re bursting with pride and we know that they will continue to keep the Namaqua Wines name high!

Congrats to Sanet Calitz and Henry Scholtz for winning bronze medals in the 2012 Comrades Marathon. It was Sanet’s fifth Comrades Marathon and Henry’s ninth. If everything goes as planned Henry will be running his 10^th Comrades next year to qualify for his permanent number.

Athletes Carin Lochner, Stanely Porter, Riaan Combrinck, Alwyn Maass, Maretha Combrinck and Adele Maass fared well in the Oorlogskloof Trail Event on the 26^th of May. The Namaqua Athletes completed the 18 km and 42 km marathons respectively. Alwyn Maass and Maretha Combrinck did excellently in the Mixed Open and came second in their categories. They also placed third in the overall marathon. It was an amazing experience and the athletes will definitely be returning next year!

Namaqua Wines was well represented at the popular SAD half marathon. Approximately 21 Namaqua Wines athletes participated in the marathon and a silver medal was taken home. Under the watchful eye of marathon maestro Alwyn Maass, newcomers Nico Louw and Joshua Fourie managed to finish the marathon with good times. Well done to all of you!

Five Namaqua Wines athletes completed the 50 km Addo Trailrun in March. The trailrun was organised by Extreme Marathons and was very challenging! The route had stunning views and everyone had a great time despite the difficult route. The athletes recommend the Addo Trailrun to everyone who’s up for a challenge!

Namaqua Wines cyclists take on the Cape Argus Cycle Tour, and finish with big smiles!

We’re so proud of our Namaqua Wines cyclists! All 18 of them finished the 2012 Cape Argus Cycle Tour on Sunday 11 March, and for many of them it was their first time taking on the gruelling 109 kilometres. To add to this success story – one of our trusty cyclists conquered the tour with a prosthetic leg, proving that nothing is impossible when you put your mind to it! These cyclists won’t be resting in winter - they will be taking on various Mountain Bike Challenges. We wish them all the best with this, and know that they will make us proud!

Desert Champions

Maretha and Alwyn of the Namaqua Athletics club have successfully completed the Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon 2011.

After a grueling 10 days of running a marathon in the Kalahari desert, Alwyn has completed the race in 2nd place over all and Maretha was 1st in the woman's league. Congratulations!

After all the hard work, there is nothing better than relaxing under the shade of the Namaqua Gazebo!

Turning up the heat

Namaqua athletes, Alwyn and Maretha, are turning up the heat at this year's Augrabies Extreme Marathon having finished the 4th stage of the race with outstanding results. Despite the intense heat of the Kalahari desert, Alwyn achieved a 2nd placing and Maretha was the 1st woman to cross the finish line! Keep it up!

Namaqua winemaker conquering a marathon

Congratulations to Alwyn (Namaqua winemaker) and Maretha from the Namaqua athletics club in Vredendal who were placed 2nd and 3rd respectively on the first day at the Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon 2011. Maretha was the first woman to pass the finish line! WELL DONE!

This latest fan letter was sent to us all the way from Malta, Europe:

I have just finished drinking one of your 8-sided boxes of white wine. I would like to say that I found your wine extremely refreshing and having a bouquet which is amazing for a wine which comes in a tetra pack and not glass bottled. I also have to point out that I bought the wine from my supermarket for EURO 8.78 which is roughly equivalent to 91 RAND. This makes your wine CHEAPER than TWO leading Maltese white bottle wines which are very popular here in Malta. Again congratulations from a very satisfied customer. Regards. Henry A. De Marco

Namaqua is Die Een

Our wines have always had a certain star quality about them, so it came as no surprise when two of our finest recently made their star debut on the acting front. In Afrikaans artist Le-Lue's latest music video for her song Die Een, Namaqua's Shiraz and Extra Lite make star appearances throughout. According to those on set, the two Namaqua stars were a joy to work with, never failing to get it right on the very first take. Blending Le-Lue's angelic vocals and our lip-smacking wines, the video turned out beautifully, captivating the audience from the very first scene. Namaqua was a guest of honour at the recent launch of Tops at Spar Vergelegen, in Somerset West. The grand opening lured many curious customers, especially with 'Jozi The Namaqua Boxed Man' parading around outside the doors, sharing hugs with the fans.

Tops at Spar branches across the country have been stocking their shelves with Namaqua for quite a while now, and it's a great pleasure to welcome Vergelegen to this growing chain of success.

Namaqua's Dry Red and Blanc de Blanc made a proud appearance in this month's Crush magazine. After years of boxed wines not featuring alongside bottled wine reviews, Micheal (the connoisseur) comments that it's 'an omission that needs correction'.
